This August Snow Is the Best We’ve Seen in Years, And We’re Loving It

Alright snow lovers, if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to hit the slopes, August 2025 has answered your prayers. The Snowy Mountains have seriously turned it on this season, and whether you’re a die-hard skier, boarder, or just love a mountain pub with views, the snow is absolutely pumping right now.

Perisher Is Covered in the Good Stuff

Let’s start with Perisher. Simply put, this is the best snow we’ve seen there in years. After a few underwhelming seasons, the snow gods have finally come through, and Perisher has clocked much more this August alone. The base depth has hit around 90cm, which is wild, and it’s not just numbers, the quality has been amazing too: dry, fluffy, and holding well between snowfalls.

All four resort areas (Perisher, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow, and Guthega) are running, with loads of terrain open for all skill levels. If you’ve been tossing up whether this year’s worth it… it is. (Check out the latest Perisher report)

Thredbo Is Bringing the Heat (Well, the Cold)

Meanwhile, over at Thredbo, conditions are just as good. They’ve had around 195 cm of natural snow this season, and the current cover is legit, smooth groomers in the morning, playful pow stashes in the trees, and those wide-open bowls up top that make you feel like you’re in a snow movie.

According to their own team, this is shaping up to be one of the best mid-season runs they’ve had in a long time. And with more snow expected later in the month, it’s only getting better. (See what Thredbo has to say)

Why August Is The Best Time To Go

If you’re planning a trip and wondering when to go, August is usually the best bet, and this year it’s living up to the hype. Historically, this is the snowiest part of the season, with consistent falls and decent coverage across all main resorts. The temperatures stay low, the days are sunny, and the runs are in top shape.

Even Spencer’s Creek (between Perisher and Thredbo) is showing a super healthy snowpack, with one of the strongest natural bases in recent memory.
